{Interview with Aubrey Adair}

I love the style Aubrey brings to her work!  Aubrey is based out of Medina, Ohio and strives to capture moments in a natural and artistic fashion.  And what is so special about Aubrey is that she captures the person, the real essence of who they are.  I feel really lucky to have “met” Aubrey.  Super sweet person; super talented photographer.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am a wife to a wonderful and supportive husband, Nathan. I am also a mother to two sweet and rambunctious little boys, Lincoln and Milo.

How did you get your start in photography?

I have always enjoyed photography.  The love has been in my family since I can remember.  My grandfather was a photojournalist and I grew up in front of my Uncle’s camera because he loved photography.  But I think it all really began when I was starting my own family.  I learned a bit of film photography just out of High School but when my husband bought me my first DSLR, I was hooked!

Is this a full time job or a part time gig?

It is a balancing act! I work at photography pretty much full time.  I think that once you start photography as a business it just becomes a part of who you are.  I eat, sleep and might even breathe photography.  I am learning to balance work with my life.  My boys come first.  Lincoln who is 6 years old attends 1st grade with K12 program here at home so he and his learning is my first priority and giving Milo, who is 4, the time and attention that he needs is most important.  It is a very tough balance when photography is also part of who you are.

What three words describe your style?

Happy.  Pure.  Natural

How do you describe your approach to photography to your clients?

I like to catch the pure and natural moments.  So even if they are a bit posed I like to catch that certain smile or little face that shows more of them.  With newborns you cannot go wrong, everything about them is pure and natural but I like to tell my clients that I will just “go with the flow.”  That is how I work.  Different lighting situations, different backdrops, different personalities…You have to be ready to adjust from one minute to the next as a photographer.  Not every client and situation is the same and no one photograph is the same.  I have to be able to just “go with it.”

Do you always know when you get that perfect shot?  Any surprises during the editing process?

I think that you can get an idea when you get a beautiful shot.  That is one benefit of digital photography.  You can look back and see it on the camera but I am always surprised once I get my images up on the computer.  The ones that I wasn’t so sure about can be some of the most amazing!

What are you inspired by?

Everything inspires me…love, light, location, babies…everything…everyone..there is always a story to be told!

Are you self taught?  Learn somewhere else?

Mostly self taught.

Any special moments or funny bloopers you want to share with us that happened during a session?

I have special moments at every session.  I feel that I have a connection with all of my clients.  As for bloopers, I have one of those every session as well.  We are always laughing.  I hope that my clients have fun in the time they spend with me!

Do you have any special rituals that are apart of your editing process, music you like to listen to, etc?

I love music when I edit.  I put on Pandora and choose something to listen to that fits my mood.  It helps me flow through editing.

Do you have a “glass” addiction?  What is your favorite lens?

I LOVE my 50mm 1.4 and my 100mm macro but am looking forward to a 35mm 1.2 in the near future!
